Greenland’s Premier Says US Flag Image Is Disrespectful
“The image shared by Katie Miller, showing our country cloaked in the American flag, changes nothing,” Jens-Frederik Nielsen stated on Instagram. Miller is a senior aide in the Trump administration and the spouse of Stephen Miller, a longtime adviser to US President Donald Trump and current Deputy Chief of Staff.
Nielsen emphasized, “Our country is not for sale, and our future will not be shaped by debates on social media.” He condemned the image as “disrespectful,” stressing that international relations “must be based on mutual respect and international law.”
He further noted, “Messages that carry symbolism of possession are not the path forward,” adding that such portrayals “ignore our status and our rights.”
The prime minister reaffirmed Greenland’s democratic character, highlighting its “self-government, free elections, and strong institutions.”
He insisted, “Our position is clearly anchored in international law and in internationally recognized agreements. It remains firm.”
“There is no reason for panic,” Nielsen concluded, “But we do have a good reason to clearly reject this kind of disrespect.”
Greenland, which functions as an autonomous territory under Danish sovereignty, continues to draw US interest due to its strategic location and abundant mineral wealth.
